:: Occupational Health ::
Occupational health is concerned with health in its
relation to work
and the working environment; both physically
and mentally. In
1950, the joint ILO / WHO
Committee on occupational health
decided upon broad definition: Occupational
health should aim at
the promotion and maintenance of the highest degree of physical,
mental and social well - being of
workers in all occupations; the
prevention among workers of departures
from health caused by
their working conditions ; the protection
of workers in their
employment from risks resulting from factors
adverse to health;
the placing and maintenance of
workers in an occupational
environment adopted to his physiological
and psychological
capabilities and to summaries: the adaption of work
to man and of
each man to his job . Thus
the definition calls for specialized
knowledge from many disciplines
like medicine, engineering,
chemistry, toxicology, psychology, physiology, statistics,
etc. and
close teamwork between workers in these
different spheres is
essential.
In
other words, it is concerned with health problems
in relation to
man & his general social,biological,chemical & physical
environment.
