:: Environmental Health ::
It is a science integrating Human Health,Pollution
& the Environment.
According
to the World Health Organization, Environmental
health
comprises those aspects of human health,
disease, and injury that are determined or influenced
by factors in the environment. This
includes the study of both the direct pathological
effects of various
chemical, physical, and biological agents, as
well as the effects on
health of the broad physical and social environment.
Environmental
quality is an important determinant of human
health.
Deteriorating environmental conditions are major contributory
factors
to poor health and poor quality
of life and hinder sustainable
development. The degree of economic development
determines the
type of environmental health hazards. Countries with least
economic
development are most at risk from traditional
environmental health
hazards, like lack of water supply and
sanitation, poor housing and
shelter, unsafe food and high prevalence of
disease vectors. In our
country, the population is at risk
both from the traditional health
hazards and from the modern hazards
such as air and water
pollution, hazardous waste, unsafe
use of chemicals including
pesticides, workplace hazards and traffic accidents.
